National Pubwatch president visits Nantwich to see local scheme in action

National Pubwatch President, Lord Graham Evans, joined the monthly Nantwich Pubwatch meeting this August, to see first-hand how the partnership works at local level.
Over twenty people attended the meeting at Nantwich Civic Hall, including local venue operators, representatives from Cheshire Police, Cheshire East Council, Street Angels, and members of the National Pubwatch Committee.
Nantwich Pubwatch chair, Mo Rauf, opened the session by stressing the importance of collaboration:
He said: "Nantwich Pubwatch is the place where everyone can come together to promote a safer night-time economy in the town.

"Well run venues create a safer environment for both staff and customers, and make life easier for local police."
The agenda covered a wide range of topics including drug misuse, the use of CCTV, drink spiking, reckless e-bike riding, and ways to protect vulnerable women.
Attendees also discussed how Street Angels and local venues can work together to support people who find themselves in difficulty on nights out.
Lord Evans said: "It was inspiring to see how everyone is working together so effectively to make Nantwich a safe and attractive place for a night out.

"I have always said that Pubs are a force for good in UK life. Nantwich Pubwatch is yet more evidence that this is true."
Sergeant Matt Stonier, Pubwatch liaison officer with Nantwich Beat Management Team, added: "I can assure you this how the meetings are held, month-to-month, and there is rarely a spare seat."
