Nantwich's WHSmith store is set to be rebranded into a TG Jones, as part of a £76m deal announced earlier this year.

Applicant, Steve Cole, of WHSmith High Street Ltd, has submitted advertisement consent to change Nantwich WHSmith Stationery, 52-54 High Street, into TG Jones.

In an error however, the applicant has listed the address as 35 High Street, which closed down in February 2024.

The applicant has submitted advertisement consent to change Nantwich WHSmith Stationery, 52-54 High Street, into TG Jones (Jonathan White).

Rebrand plans come after WHSmith announced the sale of its 233-year-old high street businesses to Modella Capital this March, the firm which owns Hobbycraft.

All remaining WHSmith high street stores will have the WHSmith name rebranded to TG Jones, with Nantwich the first in Cheshire East to have plans submitted.

All signs across the Nantwich town centre building will be replaced with 'like-for-like' replacements to TG Jones.

Noticing the location error in plans, a local resident said: "The location plan and address are wrong.

All remaining WHSmith high street stores will have the WHSmith name rebranded to TG Jones, with Nantwich the first in Cheshire East to have plans submitted (Ryan Parker).

"These plans show 35 High Street, whereas the images and elevations show (the former WHSmith Stationary) at 52-54 High Street.

"The application should therefore be made invalid until the application form and location plan are updated."

WHSmith will keep its more lucrative stores at airports, railway stations and hospitals.
