A Nantwich swimmer has raised £380 for The Wishing Well charity after completing an impressive challenge to swim the equivalent length of the English Channel in Crewe.

Ethan Carroll, 23, who is on the autistic spectrum, took on the marathon challenge during his weekly sessions at Crewe Lifestyle Centre with Seahorse Swimming Club.

Beginning in March, Ethan set himself a target of swimming 40 lengths a week, ultimately completing a remarkable 1,408 lengths.

He finished the challenge on 6 November, receiving cheers and a round of applause from fellow Seahorse swimmers.

Ethan's mother, Jane Carroll, who also volunteers at Seahorse Swimming Club, said: "Ethan has made both myself and his dad very proud with his determination week after week to achieve his goal. His dedication has been outstanding,"

A long-standing member of Seahorse Swimming Club, Ethan regularly competes in swimming galas and has previously completed fundraising challenges, including one in 2020 for the Wingate Special Children's Trust.

He is also a service user at the Wishing Well and attends Supported Community Business (SCB) Ltd, which provides work opportunities for people with disabilities.

Ethan was presented with a medal and certificate by the Wishing Well Chief Executive, Charles Maines.

The charity's chief partnerships officer, Jan Melia, said: "Ethan is one of our guests at the Wishing Well and a valued member of our Supported Adult Service (SAS).
