A Nantwich nursery is looking to expand so it can provide extra places, following the government's increase in funding for childcare.

Sunflowers at St Anne's Day Nursery, which is overseen by the governing body of St Anne's Catholic Primary School, has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission for a modular building to provide extra capacity.

A planning statement submitted by Dane Architecture Ltd on behalf of the applicant, states: "Cheshire East Council are currently working with local nurseries to create more space.

"This proposal is to add a single storey modular building with a link to extend the existing facility.

"The new building would provide additional nursery places within the area.

"The forthcoming increase in government funding from September 2025 is expected to generate significant demand for childcare, both from new families and from existing parents requiring extended sessions.

"The expansion will therefore help meet this local need and ensure sufficient early years provision within the community."

The planning document says the existing access, parking and outdoor facilities are not affected by the proposal and will remain.

It adds: "The proposal would be in keeping with the scale and character of the existing buildings and the surrounding area.

"The proposal will not have an adverse impact on the amenities of the neighbouring properties, having particular regard to overlooking, over-dominance, or loss of light."

The last date for submitting comments is Tuesday 14 October.
