Local drivers rally against pothole plague with new Facebook group
A new Facebook group, Cheshire East Pot Hole Surveillance, has sparked into action as local drivers voice their frustration over the growing number of dangerous potholes across the area.
Launched on Monday 27 January, the group has already amassed over 675 members, with the aim of growing its influence to push for better road maintenance.
The group's members are not holding back, with many sharing stories of expensive vehicle damage caused by the craters littering local roads.
One member revealed they had to fork out over £250 for a replacement tyre after hitting a pothole, calling the pay-out "money I begrudge every single penny of."
Despite Cheshire East Highways' ongoing attempts to repair the thousands of potholes in the area, frustration is mounting as drivers complain of insufficient or temporary fixes.
However, it is not all doom and gloom in the group, which has already seen some light-hearted content. Members have shared a tongue-in-cheek AI-generated photo of Highways staff depicted as clowns laughing over a gaping pothole.
The group's cover photo is equally cheeky, showing Jack and Rose from the movie Titanic clinging to driftwood while battling to survive in a huge water-filled pothole.
The group's founder hopes to harness the anger and humour of local road users into meaningful action.
"We're stronger as a collective," the group's description reads. "Our roads should be safe for everyone, whether you're driving, cycling, or walking. We need to get Cheshire East Council to take these issues seriously."
With momentum already building, the group plans to hold discussions on how to escalate their concerns.
Whether through serious activism or comedic posts, Cheshire East Pot Hole Surveillance is determined to make the voices of road users heard, and to make the local roads safer for all.
