Leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, says his government would "work with Crewe" to deliver change in the town, following the cancellation of HS2.

Sir Keir visited Crewe Alexandra FC's Mornflake Stadium, Gresty Road, on Thursday 13 June, following the launch of his party's manifesto that morning.

The man who is vying to get the keys for number 10 on July 5, was joined by Crewe and Nantwich Labour candidate, Connor Naismith, alongside other Labour members.

Sir Keir Starmer was joined by Crewe and Nantwich Labour candidate, Connor Naismith at Crewe Alex FC, alongside other Labour members (Ryan Parker).

Following the cancellation of HS2 last October, Sir Keir believes the Conservative have "let Crewe down."

The Labour leader told Nub News: "HS2 has been a complete botched effort by this government. It is yet more evidence of their chaos and division and failure to deliver.

"They have broken the budget, broken the project, and let Crewe down.

"Our manifesto, which was launched today (June 13), shows we have plans for growth and wealth creation.

"Part of that means doing infrastructure projects, whether that is transport, roads or rail and doing them better and faster.

"HS2 was a classic example of a project that too long, went way over budget and ended up letting everybody down, particularly people in Crewe.

Following the cancellation of HS2 last October, Sir Keir Starmer believes the Conservative have 'let Crewe down' (Ryan Parker).

"I am not prepared to let that happen under a Labour government.

Sir Keir, who was interviewed by the likes of BBC and ITV at Crewe Alex, including Robert Peston, says only a Labour government will deliver levelling up in towns like Crewe.

He said: "We will deliver levelling up, unlike the Conservatives. They said they would do it in 2019 and didn't deliver.

"Now if you read through their 2024 manifesto there is very little about levelling up. They have just dropped the idea and hoped nobody would notice.

"What they tapped into in 2019 was really important because people want levelling up and want to know that living standards and public services are going to be improved where they live.

"We will work with Crewe, hopefully with Connor [Naismith] as their member of parliament.

A large section of Crewe town centre is currently wasteland. Sir Keir Starmer says only a Labour government will deliver levelling up in towns like Crewe (Ryan Parker).

"He would be a powerful advocate to ensure there are growth plans in place to deliver the sort of change we need in Crewe.

"Resource, decision-making and power needs to be dissolved to people who have skin in the game.

'Alongside that, we will have a Labour government that wants to work with Crewe, not against Crewe, without the conflict.

"If we can get Connor elected, we will have an MP sitting on the Labour government benches able to push the case for his constituents day in, day out.

"That would be a material and very important step forward."

Crewe and Nantwich Labour candidate, Connor Naismith, is among eight candidates aiming to be voted in for the constituency.

Crewe and Nantwich Labour candidate, Connor Naismith, says the current Conservative government has 'let Crewe down' (Ryan Parker).

Mr Naismith told Nub News: "The Conservative government have pulled the rug out from underneath Crewe's feet, In terms of its regeneration projects.

"So many projects in this town were to be stemmed from HS2. It is important to remember it was this Conservative government that let Crewe down."
