Nantwich's oldest pub has been put up for sale, with the historic Black Lion being marketed for £125,000.

The Black Lion, Welsh Row, is a familiar landmark in the town and is believed to date back to 1664.

This Grade II listed, black and white timber-framed building has a history stretching back more than 360 years, although parts of its structure are thought to date from the mid to late 1500s.

The pub also received national recognition earlier this year after being included in The Telegraph's guide to the best pubs in Britain.

It is now being marketed by hospitality property specialist Christie & Co, with a guide price of £125,000.

The pub features two bars, an upstairs dining area, lounge seating, a snug with a log burner and an enclosed courtyard with outdoor seating for around 30 people.

Inside, it retains traditional features including original beams, exposed brickwork, wattle and daub walls, sloping floors and an open fireplace.

There is also accommodation on the second floor, comprising a lounge, bedroom and bathroom.

The listing describes the Black Lion as an established wet-led business, with a full-time manager and an existing staff team.

The current owner, Daniel Snell, has run the pub for around 14 years, building up a local following.

It serves home-cooked food from Thursday to Sunday, alongside a selection of real ales and other drinks.

Management accounts to August 2025 show a net turnover of £397,384 and an adjusted net profit of £86,219.

The sale is leasehold, with a 10-year free-of-tie lease which began in 2020 and an annual rent of £32,000.

This listing suggests there is also potential for a new owner to extend the pub's opening hours and food service.
