Sir Hugo Brunner, 91, and former Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, has visited a number of Brunner endowed Cheshire buildings on a busy two-day tour.
This included a visit to Nantwich Museum where he met volunteers and learnt about the Museum's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects.
He was also introduced to the Museum's new Salt Project.
Sir Hugo held senior positions with many publishing houses including the Oxford University Press and Chatto and Windus, and is author of a number of books.
His great-grandfather was Sir John Tomlinson Brunner, the co-founder of the chemical giant Brunner Mond which had factories in Cheshire and later merged to form the chemical giant, ICI.
Sir John Brunner played an important part in Nantwich's history.
His generous donation helped fund the construction of the Nantwich Free Library which opened in 1888.
Sir John then officially opened the building. The library became the eventual home of Nantwich Museum.
The museum in Pillory Street is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
