Firefighters had to dig out part of a riverbank to rescue a cow which had fallen into the river near Nantwich.

And they used the what3words.app and control staff to pinpoint the location of the cow in the River Weaver near Coole Lane, Austerson .

Fire engines from Nantwich and Lymm, the rope rescue unit from Lymm and animal units from Bollington and Knutsford went to the incident yesterday (Thursday) at 10.07 am.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Thanks to the what3words app and Northwest Fire Control staff, firefighters were alerted to a remote area where a cow had been seen in the River Weaver.

"Finding the animal with the words cone.scribble.gracing, swift water and animal rescue technicians then worked together to successfully get the cow out of the water, after part of the riverbank was dug out to allow it to get out safely."
