A Nantwich independent bookshop has taken its passion for reading on the road with the launch of a brand new 'Book Bus,' bringing stories, community and coffee-inspired comfort to villages across the area.

The Nantwich Bookshop and Coffee Lounge, a family-run independent bookshop and award-winning café housed in a striking 16th-century timber-framed building, has been a fixture in the town since 2003.

Now, owners Steve and Denise Lawson are also turning the page on an exciting new venture, a renovated mobile bookshop designed to take books directly into the community.

The newly unveiled Book Bus made its maiden voyage in early March 2026, delivering books to local schools for World Book Day.

Its first official visit was to Delamere CofE Primary Academy, marking the beginning of a journey seeing the travelling bookshop visiting rural villages, schools and care homes across the region.

Steve and Denise originally considered selling the café side of their business last year with plans to focus solely on the bookshop and explore the idea of a mobile store.

While the café sale ultimately fell through, the idea of the Book Bus proved too good to abandon.

"We're still here in our lovely historic building serving delicious coffee and food, they said.

"But now we also have a beautiful Book Bus which will allow us to bring books and the bookshop experience out into the community."

The converted bus has been carefully renovated with bespoke shelving, comfortable seating and a striking exterior wrap, creating a welcoming mini bookshop on wheels.

Planned routes to local villages will be announced soon, helping ensure readers everywhere can browse curated titles without travelling into town.
