A 35-year-old woman was rescued from the River Weaver in a late night Nantwich weekend incident, with all three emergency services on scene.

On Sunday 16 November, seven Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews attended Waterlode, along with support from Cheshire Police and North West Ambulance Service.

At 4.06am, crews discovered a female had fallen into the river and managed to get herself to the bottom of an embankment by the time they had arrived.

Due to trees and railings, the woman was in a "difficult to access area," but was eventually rescued using rope tactics and handed into the care of paramedics.

Cheshire Police, who were alerted by fire crews, closed off Waterlode in both directions while dealing with the emergency.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews were called to rescue a person who had fallen into the River Weaver in Nantwich.

"The casualty was out of the water at the bottom of the embankment when crews arrived.

"Firefighters, including swift water rescue teams, used a nine-metre ladder, throwlines, a reach pole and life jackets to assist the casualty, who was in a difficult to access area due to trees and railings.

"The casualty was rescued and handed into the care of ambulance crews.

"A cordon was put in place and Waterlode was closed in both directions by police."

The woman sustained no serious injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 4.18am on Sunday 16 November, we received reports of a female having fallen into the River Weaver off Waterlode.

"All three emergency services were on scene within minutes of the call and located the 35-year-old still in the water.

"Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service utilised rope tactics to rescue the female onto the river bank where she was treated by North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust - before being taken to hospital as a precaution."
