105 jobs lost as 1962-established Nantwich firm collapses into administration

More than 100 jobs have been lost in Nantwich, after engineering firm Gilks, established in the 1960s, collapsed into administration.
Administrators from FRP Advisory Trading Limited were appointed on February 18, after attempts to secure fresh investment, alternative funding and restructure the business failed.
Joint administrator Martyn Rickels said the company had faced "increasing cost pressures and challenging market conditions" in recent years.
"Regrettably, despite exploring all options, it was not possible to secure a viable future for the business," he said.
Gilks had operated in Nantwich since 12 March, 1962, delivering electrical and mechanical services to sites including schools, care homes, military bases and the NHS.
Employees were first told of the firm's financial difficulties during a Microsoft Teams meeting.
The business reported turnover of around £11 million last year, down from £15 million the previous year.
Gilks was acquired in 2020 by Deeside-based Ethikos Group.
